If she doesn't die suddenly of a stroke, but has a lingering death, I wonder if she will wonder, where did SHE go wrong. NOT where did the GB screw up, or the Bible go wrong. (Unfortunately she doesn't realize the writing committee along with the GB just pull ideas out of their a$$"s) lol

Poor dear old soul. (It would not be respectful to call her a fool. I really feel for her. I drank the kool aid too).

----->If I was at Beth-hell, that is one tough call. I honestly don't know, but I would realize my days were numbered. If I had always wanted freedom, along with a husband, children, a home etc, the shock might kill me.

For me personally, I would want to know. It would answer so many questions on why the GB doesn't make any sense but make singing rolly cart commercials and stupid kids cartoons. I gave up all of life's pleasures so the GB could go on JW-TV and make fools of themselves and my "the end is coming" "preach the Word, or you are blood guilty" religion?

I would need someone to hold my hand through this. It would be brutal with stripping off the blind fold.

Sept 1963: I received my "Babylon the Great Has Fallen, God's Kingdom Rules" book at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena too. We studied this Bible study aid (lol and or barf, take your pick!) at our book study group the following year. LoisLane had fallen in love like wise with a worldly boy from school. He was studying and also came to Tuesday and Sunday meetings with me. I knew he didn't believe and was there just for my sake so I had to give him up. His life was so much the better for it because he went on to have a happy and successful career flying military helicopters during Viet Nam, was on a wrestling team, and married a girl who truly loved him with no hidden religious agenda with flip flopping man made up doctrines that are in one year and out the next.

What happened to the "Babylon the Great" book that was studied so intently and never made any sense to anyone? Trashed and you are considered an apostate or trouble maker if you even refer to it.

if you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that.

you will never grow old in this present system of things... .all evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years... as a young person you will never fulfill any career that this system offers.

if you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career.

@Gayle, Good for you for waking up to have a normal life! Waking up is shocking, but the rewards are priceless! A husband, 5 educated children most probably a pension and a planned retirement for you all! That is fabulous after being a hard working free drone at Bethell. You are to be truly admired as a wonderful success story after leaving WT behind!

The GB all have their planned retirement. They own ALL the KHall's and Assembly Halls around the world. They have servants taking care of their every need. They don't care 2 cents about anyone else.

Singing literature carts? Masturbation videos? Having your picture taken with Caleb and Sophia stand up dolls? barf -barf - barf These guys ARE idiots! lol

@Back to the OP. I do not know anyone of my 'era' who went to College. In 1969 I was a regular pioneer buying that magazine at the literature counter for 3 cents each and 'placing' it (cold calling and selling it) for 5 cents each. All my normal friends from high school went on to have successful lives after furthering their careers. Many of the girls became school teachers or nurses. They married mutually compatible mates. Not someone just because they were of the same religion!

@Farkel: Farkel is dead now, but I wonder whatever happened to his presiding overseer, telling an educated school teacher that "The World IS Ending!" lol lol lol Fifty (50) years ago! lol

Or, maybe she picked up someone else's book, opened it up and was shocked to see a picture of a nikked man! lol The old lady next to her had seen plenty of that nikked man stuff in her life and apparently, was not too impressed. "Seen one, seen them all". lol The lady on our right looks like she's thinking, "Umm those ladies ought to be paying attention and not be looking at what they are a lookin at". lol

PS Can't say that I have ever seen this picture because I haven't. Thanks for sharing.

i left in the 90's and marriage partners were similar in age at my former congregation.

i ran into a former jw friend from my childhood.

i haven't seen him in 15 years.

Recently, I checked on an old friend and wondered if his dear Dad was still alive. So I checked past obituaries and yes, he had died, in fact only this past Dec. He was 103. There were photos of him at his 100th birthday party, in his wheel chair, with his much younger Phillipina wife dancing in front of him. In the photos he and everyone else, looked very happy.

This fellow, "Ernie" lost his wife when she was 'just' 91 after 70 years of marriage.

Good for him for finding another love. After his wife died, he sold the family home for 1.5 million US and moved into a smaller home that was easier for him to get around in.

PS They were not baptized JW's. Some in the family did 'study' many decades ago.

Thank you Fulltimestudent for sharing some American history I was not aware of. I googled it and read some and will read more later.

The mines were owned by Rockefeller Jr. Controlled by him while living in New York City. That area of mines he owned in Colorado had the highest rate of accidents and death from poorly shorned up (is that the right word?) mining structures. The miners were paid for the tonnage they produced, not how they dug it out. (Tunnelling was on their time/dime.) Meaning during those early years Rockefellar did not pay the workers for 'making' the tunnels to get the coal, they were paid for delivering the coal.

At the end of the video he sang he 'hung'... I was so afraid he was going to say he hung himself, but he said, hung his head in shame.

Conversation with my mother-in-law this morning

i am skipping the details on how we got to this point.

conversation was calmed and pleasant and while i know she is not the most educated person (she can hardly read), its hard to justify it by saying is a matter of ignorance.

it is definitely something inside her that triggers on that very moment.. me: i don't know where all the money is going.

A close JW friend, 80, a retired registered nurse (so she is educated and reads well) recently said in a conversation I over heard, that in WT Paradise, there would be NO BOOKS (????? and ?????). Why do you say that, was the question asked? "Because they are all written by worldly people!" Did she hear an ignorant CO say that? Where did THAT come from? lol There is no saying anything to the contrary to her, because she is NOT thinking, straight or otherwise! lol

I was like your MIL. I sat at the meetings, if not day dreaming or trying to figure out the weeks meals and a grocery list, I would let the brainwashing go in one ear, rotate, and then I too would vomit out the WT sanctioned correct comment, when called upon, without giving it any thought. (Obviously. lol)

Don't be too harsh with her. I had doubts for years but I had to wait for the perfect storm to arise before I dared read the forbidden Crisis of Conscience. That book blew off all the closed and locked doors in my mind.

PS Also if your MIL doesn't read Spanish because of knowing other Mexican dialects, (I am saying that because you mentioned Houston) she probably is just a nice Mom trying to do her best for her family that she loves so much. It possibly has not come to her mind that the WT people would blantanly LIE to her. Poor thing. She needs your continud love and support, then when she see's all the WT BS, she will realize what a wonderful son-in-law she has! lol

When I was younger than your daughter, I asked my dad (while we were standing outside at night before getting ready to get into the car to go to meeting) 'Daddy, what is the moon made out of?' I sincerely wanted to know. He looked at the moon, then looked down at me and replied, 'Blue cheese'.

That was when I knew my father was s-t-u-p-i-d. lol I would much rather he took the time and told me something worth while and professional, even though it would have been over my head at the moment.

My belief is that your daughter will not forget the sincere questions she asks and your doubly sincere answers that you give her that no one else will.

You are doing a wonderful job trying to gently get her to think and reason. As a born in myself, I wish I had had a father like you.

funny thing was they got mixed up in it first.. while that is a story for another time, i myself had to go along as the third of five children in my family.

dads job transferred him to texas and my mom worked fulltime herself, but eventually we found ourselves drinking the kool-aid of ambiguity intolerance and full-fledge belief that the bible was literal fact and that salvation was found only by those who were smart enough to enter the confines of the watchtower.. its weird how many people claim they fear children raised by two gay parents will grow up to be gay.

No, I am not Jewish. I have a varied gene pool including native American from a long time ago, but no Jewish people. Lots of religious English and Scots though.

I have a near relative who tells me I should seek out Jewish friends and get involved in the Jewish community way of life. He says they are wonderful and loving families who encourage education and getting ahead. (As in opposite JW dumb downed thinking, plus if you do think outside the JW box, the rest of the JW's won't have anything to do with you. That is so sick and unnatural).

You sound like a treasure. When you are ready for it, I hope you find the love of your life.
